The Letterman Co’s first collaboration

We’ve been working on something very exciting behind the scenes, and we’ve been dying to tell you about it! Finally I can let the cat out the bag and tell you about The Letterman Co’s first foray into collaborations!

Robert Grieves’ work first came to my attention some years ago when his short animated film SAUSAGE won 8 festival awards and qualified for the 2015 Oscars and BAFTAs. I immediately fell in love with his illustration style which drew on inspiration from the retro era. So, when I decided I wanted an artist to develop some characters especially for the brand I gave Robert a call!

It was still early days of The Letterman Co then, I didn’t really have much to show for the brand, but fortunately Rob loved the concept, and was excited to come onboard and work on some character. We started by sending Rob some of our inspiration boards:

I thought it would be fun to design a boy and girl character . We would then dress them up in different retro outfits, the first ones being a Cowboy and Cowgirl.

Robert has been an animator for the past 15 years and his career has been focused around Motion Graphics both in London and Sydney. He’s regularly worked with broadcasters including the BBC, ABC, Disney and the History Channel. His projects have collected two Gold Promax/BDA awards, the first ever Emmy for Outstanding Motion Design, and recently shortlisted for Best TV Graphics at the British Animation Awards. Robert’s also created interactive animations for Madame Tussaud’s and Cirque du Soleil, as well as pioneering backdrops for Hairspray the Musical and the London Olympic Ceremonies. So you could say, he’s a pretty talented guy, and I was chuffed to bits he want to ‘dip his toe’ into the world of Children’s clothing with us!

Most excitingly the launch of Rob’s first apparel and accessory designs coincide with the launch of a truly awesome animation commission by Sesame Street, which premiered just recently on HBO, and is also available to watch online. It’s aim is to inspire kids to eat healthy food. Check it out on this link:
